The final blog post!

I learned so much in this class. This was genuinely one of my favorite classes I have taken at LC. I found it more challenging than I originally anticipated. I have always done well in Spanish classes because I understand the language. This was the first class where I had to use that understanding of the language in order to understand the thoughts and ideas of other people. As stated prior in the semester, I ma a theater major, so I love literature. I adore analyzing it. However, I found it to be a new challenge to analyze literature in Spanish and then try to express my thoughts and feelings about it in another language. That was the biggest challenge for me. One thing I learned in this class is that it is OK to not be perfect when working with another language, I am a perfectionist and have definatley transferred that to my learning of Spanish. In this class however, there were many things that I wanted to say about the literature which I did not know how to express in another language. My Spanish was far... very far from perfect this semester and I had to learn to accept that it was a learning experience. In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed the work we did this semester and I look forward to taking more Spanish classes at LC.

Pablo Millanes

From what I can understand from the blog reading, Millanes is very left-winged. He was in support of a communist government in Cuba. He was also against exiles from what I can understand. This is why there is so much controversy over him performing in Miami where there are many Cuban exiles. However, his most well-known songs are about love and peace and he belives everyone should have the right to protest. This explains the controversy regarding whether he is an oppressor or a freedom fighter. Che Guevara was a left winged Marxist revolutionary in Argentina. His ideals would line up with Millanes'. Millanes compares Che to a poeta porque el speaks and inspires people to rebel. His words can move people into action must like a poem has the ability to move someone. La vida no vale nada es una poema muy triste. According to la cancion, la vida no vale nada porque there is nothing we can do about the pain in the world. When we see people in pain, there is little we can do to help them. A mi me pienso que la voz poetica quiere ayudar Puerto Rico en el poema "Son de Cuba a Puerto Rico." Es porque los dos paises tienen mucho en comun. La voz poetica dice que los dos paises son dos alas de un pajaro. Ellos son la misma. Honestly, no estoy segura on the tema de la cancion "pecado original." No se las dos cosas en el cuento. I'm missing something very importante with this cancion.

Victor Jara

Victor Jara was a folk singer in Chile during the Allende/ Pinochet years that we have been discussing in class. He was brutally murdered by a military leader a few days after Allende was overthrown. His death became a symbol for protesters. His name recently came back into the news in 2016 because the man who killed him was finally being tried for his murder in Florida. Jara's family decided to press charges. El nino en Luchin tiene un vida muy pobre. A mi me pienso que sus jugetes son un pelota, un gato, un perro, y un caballo. El come cosas de la tierra como insectos, es muy triste. Me pienso wue la voz poetica quiere freedom para Luchin. Un plegaria es un prayer. La voz poetica en Plegaria a un Labrador esta talking to the working class. El esta tratando a inspire the laborers to come together and fight for their rights.En mi opinion. la cancion "Movil Oil Special" y "Me gustan los estudiantes" son similares porque los dos discuss the fact that young people in university are the ones who are fighting and trying to change the world. Los estudiantes son los protesters mas fuertes. The metafors present in la ultima cancion con muy bonitas. Un cancion es una paloma. Hay fuerte y paz en musica en un tiempo muy triste.

Patricio Manns was rather stunned when Bob Dylan won the Noble Prize. He was shiocked for several reasons. First of all, Bob Dylan is a black man. Black men did not win the Noble Prize at this point in time. Manns was also shocked because the Nobel Prize committee recognized a song as poetry. This was a much more progressive idea than Manns was used to.A mi me pienso que es correcto para darselo a Bob Dylan. The American dream is the idea that everyone has the opportunity to advance their situation. One can come into a new country and through hard work and dedication, they are able to create a decent life. Other people may argue that the American Dream is a husband, two children, and a white picket fence; however, I think this idea is outdated. El Sueno Americano es el Album de Patricio Manns. In this album, he is attempting to put together a story about the baf that America has done to people of different Races. My poem was El Nuevo Mundo. Patricio discusses how the new world destroyed the world that came before it. The first stanza refers to a giant secret that the Los Estados Unidos had tried to keep concealed. Later he describes that Indians have been put in the background and no one ever wantes to talk about what we did to them. He then describes the beauty of the Indian culture prior to the Europeans coming over. This shows a contrast between the purness of the Indians and the terror of the white men. He ends the song with a plea to return to the purity.

Violeta Parra wrote and recorded folk songs during the 1960s. SHe was a mjor influence to the New Song movement of the 60s. Her songs were rather ominous and reflected her worsening depression. She, sadly, committed suicide due to her depression. A mi me encanta la cancion Gracias a la Vida. Es muy simple, pero es muy haunting yet easy to listen to. En la cancion, me gustan los estudiantes, a la voz poetica le gustan los estidantes porque ellos luchar por cosas importante. Los estudiantes son fuertes y tiene mucho passion para vida. Estes estudiantes son muy simailar a los estudiantes ahora. Estudiantes de la universidad quieren luchar por sus causas. Ellos tiene mucha energia. I read los letras de La jardinera antes de I listened to la cancion. Los letras son muy triste y me parece wue la voz poetica is heart broken. She obviously lost someone very important to her, however the tune is rather cheerful. This confuses me a bit. A me pienso que al centro de la injustcia es sobre over population y how las personas nativas tienen que trabajar duro por las personas de otras paises. Hay muchas personas coming in to visit the country y los nativos tienen que pagar por ellos.

Eduardo Frie Montalva era el presidente de Chile durante los anos 1964-1970. Despues de Montalva, Allende took power en Chile. Salvador Allende fue el primer presidente Marxist de un pais en Latin America through open Elections. He was elected through the democratic process. Luego, Allende dies en un military coup. The military dictatorship began in Chile which was run by Pinochet. Cuando Allende died, he still had a rather positive view of Chile. While addressing his country before his death he spoke of hope that Chile would overcome this dark time. He also spoke of all of the varias tipas de personas en Chile and the pride that he had in these people. Allende y el narador pueden ver los problemas con pobreza en las calles. Tambien, los mensajes politicos. There is much division in Chile at this time due to the instability of the politics; this is reflected en los mensajes en la calle. El blog reading sobre Eduardo Galeano es muy interesante. A mi me peinso que el es muy intelgiente and is constantly changing his ideas as he grows which is nobel. He is not stuck in the past.

Isabel Allende is saying that los cuentos dice la verdad sobre vida. También, los cuentos necesitan passion porque no hay vida sin pasión. Ella puede encontrar mujeres para sus cuentos en vida, ella no tiene que make them up. Hay mujeres fuertes en este mundo; y estes mujeres tienen cuentos. Sus protagonistas en sus cuentos son estas mujeres fuertes del mundo. Belisa Crepusculario fits in con estas mujeres porque ella no tenía mucho dinero, pero tenía un bueno vida sin un hombre. Ella saved herself from the things life threw at her. Belisa Crepusculario le da palabras al coronel. Ella escribió un speech para el coronel. A mi me pienso que a Belisa le gustaba el Coronel at least mas que she liked el mulato. No se exactamente how the story ended. Yo se el coronel was in a daze porque los dos palabras haunted him. El mulato brought Belisa back to el coronel pero no se exactamente que ocurre después. No se los dos palabras. Me pienso que es un romance. Ella tiene la corazón del coronel al final del cuento. Me gusta este ending porque she captured his heart con palabras y intelligence. Ella era bonita, pero ella era más que un mujer bonita.
